She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk Martin; father, Frank Prater; and mother, Virginia Schwalm Prater. She was survived by her daughter, Mary Albitz; son, Matthew Albitz; sister, Kerri Cunningham (David); sister, Karla Bowman; brother, Frank P Prater; brother, Paul Prater(Debbie); cousins; great aunt; nieces and nephews; and friends.

Polly Prater Albitz, age 60, lost her battle with liver cancer and passed away on January 2, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk Martin; father, Frank Prater; and mother, Virginia Schwalm Prater. She was survived by her daughter, Mary Albitz; son, Matthew Albitz; sister, Kerri Cunningham (David); sister, Karla Bowman; brother, Frank P Prater; brother, Paul Prater(Debbie); cousins; great aunt; nieces and nephews; and friends.
She graduated from Thomas Moore college with a bachelor’s degree in social work with a minor in business. Polly lived in the Atlanta area while working for Georgia Power for more than 30 years. She worked in the electric transportation division during the 1996 Olympics. She was an avid outdoorsman. She was a kayak instructor, slalom racer, and president of the Atlanta Whitewater Club. A skilled kayaker, she made many lifelong friends while paddling in Peru and all over the United States. She skied in Utah, pack rafted in Montana, and hiked everywhere she could. A warm loving person, she was always surrounded by family and friends. Polly was an animal lover who had pets most of her life. She was a member of the Winters Chapel United Methodist Church for 11 years. She was active with the United Methodist Women, facilitated the community garden, and started a Movie Night for children in our community. She was involved in the Boy Scouts and went on several camping trips throughout the southeast with Troop 430. She led her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, helping them from the Brownies stage to completing their Silver Award. She will be missed dearly.
A Celebration of Life will take place on March 11, 2023 at 11 AM at Winters Chapel United Methodist Church with reception to follow.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper in her name.
